Grant received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Calgary in 2000. Grant has management, research, development, teaching, and volunteer experience in a variety of fields including: signal processing, acoustics, image processing, wireless communications, machine vision, high performance computing, circuit design, field programmable gate arrays, application specific integrated circuits, DSP processors, optics, magnetic resonance imaging, and power systems. Grant did foundational work in wireless LANs including the implementation of the first OFDM based wireless LAN in 1992 (this is a core technology in WiFi) and the first gigabit per second physical layer demonstration in 2000. Grant has managed development teams with a wide diversity of talents, been the director of a large research team, been an adjunct professor, and been program coordinator at a technical conference. Grant is the named inventor or co-inventor on 49 US patents and have contributed to 19 peer-reviewed publications.
